The final chapter of my personal bedroom refresh... for now... begins with a funny story at the fabric shop! Remember the blue and white material from the quick concept board that I pitched to Jeremy? I knew that my favorite retail fabric shop in Raleigh had it. My mom and I love to go there anytime we have a little home project because they offer such great quality, prices, and selections! Well, we got word that they were closing, and everything was on sale - Fear not! Some of the ladies who worked there were able to buy and reopen under a new name! - so I took a trip to Raleigh, and my mom and I did what we do best. Shop.
We arrived at the store, and immediately found the pictured material. Because they were having such amazing deals, I decided to browse for fabrics for our living room and kitchen/back door projects. Because Jeremy had to work, I was texting him pictures for his input once we narrowed the selections down. With everything settled, mom grabbed one of the sales ladies... and arrived at the bolt for the bedroom window material at the same time as another couple. I needed 4 yards, they needed 6 - and there was only about 6 or 7 yards remaining. The woman and her husband were very generous, offering to let me have the entire bolt. In the end, I got them to take it. I had several options that would work great for my space, whereas they had come specifically for that pattern. My mom and I both thought that was such a wild coincidence - two different people shopping for the last yardage of the same fabric at the same time, both for bedrooms! While I was a teensy bit disappointed initially, I really think it worked out for the better! I absolutely love the softer shade of blue that we ended up with, and it actually fits the "relaxing oasis" vibe that Jeremy requested even better.
With fabric in hand, we were ready for the next steps! A few weeks previous, Jeremy had built the cornice boards for both the living room and bedroom. I had him make the bedroom fixtures a bit oversized, so that we could also hang some drapery panels... I'm thinking white velvet, with a beautiful trim tape on the inside edges. Because of the width of the windows, I had to seam the panels together, which is easy peasy for a solid fabric. My mom taught me to sew several years ago, but I've only really started to practice and work on projects in the last couple of years - lets just say that I watched many a youTube tutorial on sewing a fabric that requires pattern matching. I may have had to rip the seam out on my first attempt! But the second time was the charm (thankfully!), and I was then able to upholster the cornice board. They turned out beautifully, and I was quite proud to add that to my sewing repertoire! While I was in Raleigh, I also stopped into Lowe's and picked up some necessary supplies for hanging the wallpaper. Spoiler alert: Jeremy and I also watched several more youTube videos regarding grasscloth installation! It ended up going pretty smoothly, much better than we anticipated, and I've even convinced Jeremy to eventually add a fun printed wallpaper in another room, later. I've got my eye on a gorgeous blue/green Thibaut floral paper.
We were in the home stretch - for the time being. We just had our crawl space waterproofed and sealed, so we haven't purchased the finishing touches for our bedroom yet. We still need a large rug to go under the bed, the white velvet drapes, and of course some artwork! I'd also eventually like to get larger nightstands, since these were from our little apartment, and a set of taller lamps. I've finally found a jewelry armoire that I love, so I'll be ordering that shortly, and after another trip up to my parents house, I was able to bring my great aunt's vanity back to Wallace. I will be posting an update, once we get all of those finishing touches in place! But for now, I leave you with our little zen oasis.
